About

Culture relates to objects and is a phenomenon of the world;
entertainment relates to people and is a phenomenon of life.

- Hannah Arendt -

The Village Stage, Inc. was founded in 1985 to provide quality community theater utilizing the talents and skills of local residents. In 2006, Village Stage formed a partnership with The Harlequin Players to produce a fall and spring show, and a summer children’s theater. In 2009, with the support of a Community Art$Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the Arts Center of the Capital Region, Village Stage changed its focus to community theater for children and families, focusing on reading and literacy and education through the performing arts. Village Stage now produces and performs a rotating series of shows, including adaptations of classic tales and original works.

Its mission is to:

  • entertain through the production and performance of plays and through participation in local events involving the dramatic arts
  • educate ourselves and the community, including the granting of scholarships
  • enrich community life by involving community members in the presentation of live theatre for the benefit of the community in general.

Village Stage is located in the Capital Region of New York State. This region includes the cities of Albany, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady, and Troy and is home to nearly 900,000 residents.

Village Stage is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. There are many volunteer opportunities from producer to actor, from newsletter editor to backstage manager.  Board meetings are held once per month and are open to all members.

We hope to see you at our next show. In the meantime, please consider supporting our work as a volunteer and/or sponsor. Thank you for visiting our web site and getting to know us!
